Alacero, among its activities of promotion of steel use, holds annually a contest addressed to future Latin American architects. Since its launch in 2008, it has brought together more than 6,000 students, and in its 10th edition, this year, the participants should develop a preliminary project of a Nursery Room and Children's Garden.
On this occasion, the topic seeks to improve the quality of life of the community through the design of a nursery room and a decent primary educational equipment for areas lacking this infrastructure, as well as revitalizing neighborhoods and transforming the space into a meeting place. On the other hand, it should serve as support for parents, especially for working mothers.
The Contest is divided into 2 stages. In the first instance, students should participate in the local phase. The participating countries are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Mexico, who will develop this topic and will choose the best project at the national level. The winning team from each country will travel to Cancun, Mexico to participate in the final stage that will hold during the Latin American Steel Conference, Alacero-58, in November 2017.
A jury of architects, representing each participating country will announce the winners on November 6th. The first prize is US$ 10,000 (US$ 6,000 for the students and US$ 4,000 for the University). The second prize is US$ 3,000 (US$ 2,000 for the students and US$ 1,000 for the university).
The 10th Alacero Steel Design Contest for Architecture Students 2017 is organized by the Latin American Steel Association - Alacero -, jointly with the entities that develop this event locally: Argentinean Steel Chamber (Argentina), Brazilian Center of Steel Construction - CBCA (Brazil), CAP Acero (Chile), FEDEMETAL - Andi (Colombia), FEDIMETAL (Ecuador), Canacero (Mexico) and Adoacero (Dominican Republic).
